Goodyear vs Continental – Tyre Comparison
Instead of a lengthy introduction, we are going to be very brief. This blog post is the latest addition to our series of tire comparison articles. As the title indicates, today, we are going to compare Goodyear and Continental. Both are well-established and widely recognized tyre brands with tonnes of experience. Let’s start.
EfficientGrip VS Ultra Contact UC6
The Goodyear EfficientGrip is a summer that is designed to provide fuel savings and long-lasting durability. The silica tread compound plays a pivotal role in extending the life of these tyres without compromising on any key performance or safety features. This tyre is instrumental in reducing your carbon footprint as well.
The EfficientGrip comes with Goodyear’s FuelSaving Technology include different tires sizes like; 225 55 r17 tyres. The lightweight structure and an advanced tread compound help reduce the overall carbon footprint and the rolling resistance. As the tire requires less energy to roll along the surface, you can save money on fuel costs. EfficientGrip also comes with a unique tread design that quickly disperses water.
Due to the fast water evacuation feature, there is no risk of hydroplaning. The tread design also helps in reducing the braking distance. Rim protectors are also installed into the tire along with run-flat technology. Therefore, even after losing complete air tire pressure, you can continue driving.
On the other hand, we have the Continental Ultra Contact UC6. Remember, almost every third car in Europe is equipped with a Continental tire. It speaks volumes of Continental’s quality. Touted as ‘Perfect as a Diamond’, the Continental Ultra Contact UC6 truly lives up to its name. The aqua channel surface sipes direct the water away from the tread to ensure optimal wet surface traction.
To further improve wet surface traction and reduce the risk of hydroplaning, special ‘Aqua Drainage’ elements are built into the tire. They direct water away from the tyre. The ‘Diamond Edges’ improve the contact area of the tyre with the road surface. This improves traction and reduces the braking distance by a considerable amount.
The new ‘Diamond Blend Compound’ further improves the braking distance and cornering ability. In addition to this, the compound is also responsible for increasing the durability of these UC6. The tire also features Continental’s ‘Noise Breaker’ technology. As the noise is carried through the grooves, this technology quickly breaks the sound waves, resulting in a quieter ride.
Winner?
It isn't easy to pick a winner here. The EfficientGrip and UC6 both have a lot to offer to the vehicle owner. The features are also similar. One glaring difference is that the EfficientGrip also has run-flat technology, whereas the UC6 does not. The price is the same as well. In our opinion, the EfficientGrip edges the UC6 based on this feature.
SUV Eagle F1 Asymmetric SUV XL VS CrossContact LX Sport
The F1 is designed for large SUVs and 4x4 vehicles. If you ever feel the need to take your car out for some desert or mountain driving, the F1 is a perfect companion. The tire is designed not just to handle the weight of the vehicle but also offer excellent performance and safety features. Thanks to Goodyear’s Active CornerGrip Technology, the F1 offers excellent traction & cornering ability.
Normally, when driving over rocks and other rough surfaces, tire noise is a real concern. Not to mention, the tire noise can dampen the whole driving experience or you need special tires for such terrains. However, the F1’s tread design is quite effective in reducing the tire noise, thereby significantly improving the overall drive experience.
The F1 also comes with run-flat technology. Most high-end Goodyear tires are now equipped with this technology. Even after complete loss of air pressure, you can continue driving at speeds of 50 mph. Therefore, dangers like getting stranded or tire blow out is a thing of the past due to this innovative feature.
Continental also offers SUV tires, and the CrossContact LX Sport is a top choice among SUV and 4x4 owners. The marketing tagline for the LX Sport is ‘Infinite terrains, unlimited safety’. Considering the customer reviews and features, the LX truly lives up to this tagline. It is a high-performance tyre that can be used in extreme conditions, including light snow.
Depending on the tire size like; 225 60 r17, 265 50 r20 tyres, Continental offers various features including the SSR technology. We have talked about this technology earlier as well. It is basically Continental’s trademark name for its run-flat technology. The sidewall is reinforced through additional features that prevent the tire from collapsing even after complete loss of air pressure.
ContiSilent™ is Continental’s noise reduction technology. A sound absorption layer is added to the inside of the inner tread area. It reduces the tyre noise by up to 50%. If that’s not enough to assess the quality of the LX Sport, then you would be happy to know that it is the original equipment tyre for various SUV models.
Winner?
Despite the LX Sport’s innovative design and features, the Eagle F1 is our winner. The reason is that it is more durable than the LX Sport. It also outmatches it in terms of performance and safety features. LX Sport is also more expensive as compared to the F1 while offering lesser features. Therefore, the Eagle F1 deserves your money.
