The present research into the driving behaviour and attitudes of young drivers have revealed some surprising yet unfortunate facts. For example, 71% of the young drivers are unaware of the recent laws related to seat belts in the UAE. Conclusion
After reading the infographic, by now you would have understood where the youth of the country is heading to. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the state, parents, civil society to impart awareness to these individuals about safe driving.
Hefty fines are not an effective way of encouraging young drivers to opt for safe and responsible driving. An alarming statistic is that 60% of accidents in Abu Dhabi in 2017 were caused due to non wearing of seat belt. Likewise, speeding was a key factor in 525 deaths.
Although individuals know about the dangers of not wearing a seat belt or speeding, they still ignore it. Therefore, the focus must be on schooling the individuals through awareness programs etc. to bring about a change in their mindset.
