Vehicles Tires That Produce Energy

Dec 03, 2019     PitStopArabia

Energy is undeniably one of the most invaluable resources. Its importance is only increasing day by day. There are various ways through which energy can be produced but have you ever thought about your tires? What if the tires of your vehicle started producing energy for your car?

Would not that be great? Well, it definitely will be. Energy producing tyres are a part of today’s discussion. In this article, we will share another tale of innovation from the tyre industry. Previously, if you heard someone saying that one day your tyres will be able to produce energy, you would have thought that the person is joking!

However, the best part is that we can now see it happening. Sumitomo Rubber Industries is working on it in collaboration with a Japanese university. Sumitomo is not only trying to create tires that produce energy; in fact, it is trying to recover the energy that is lost while the tires are rolling. After recovering, this energy will again be accessible to the vehicle.

According to the company, this energy will be produced and recovered with a small power generation gadget, called the "energy recuperator". This device will be mounted on the inside of the tire. What happens is that when the tire flexes while rolling, static electricity is produced at every single rubber deformation and this process is known as friction charging.

We cannot say anything for now until it is clear that this energy will help the car move forward. Fingers are crossed, and people are expecting a lot at the moment because this energy can even fuel the other small electronic components of the car too. It can also give power to the tire pressure sensors.

Sumitomo is still working on this concept of a tire that produces energy. For now, it seems like they will be successful with their research, but it is going to take some time.
