There are numerous unfortunate car accidents involving children and vehicles. A lot of them end in tragedy. The most common reason for such incidents is carelessness on part of the parents. This blog will talk about essential tips that will keep your children safe in a car.

1. Don't Leave Children Alone

Never leave children unattended in a car, even for a few minutes. You never know when those few minutes can become longer. A child may suffer from heatstroke or may also try to touch car controls which may force the car to move. There are even cases where children were abducted when left inside vehicles alone. So always bring children with you and never leave them alone inside a car unattended.

2. Buckle Them Up

Before you start your journey, make sure kids are buckled up. In case you already buckled them up, double-check just in case. Educate the kids on the importance of wearing a seat belt. Show them how to wear a seat belt to know how to wear and open a seat belt themselves.

3. Enable Child Door Locks

Your kids may open the car door while driving. It is extremely dangerous, and the child may fall out of the door. To negate this risk, every car is equipped with a child lock. Enable the child locks so that even if the kids try to open the car door, it won’t open and will only open from outside.

4. Lock Power Windows

A child may roll down the car window by pressing the button. They may then fall out of the window or try to put their arms, head, or legs outside the window. It is pretty dangerous as they can collide with another car or object. So always lock the power window buttons so that children cannot roll down the car window on their own.

5. Keep The Car Locked

Always keep the car locked even when it is parked in a garage. The reason is that it prevents the vehicle from theft, but it also keeps the children safe. You never know when a child may access the car if it’s kept open and get trapped inside it or put the handbrake down and force the car to roll away. Always keep the car keys out of the reach of children.

6. Don't Allow Kids To Eat In The Car

Prohibit kids from eating snacks inside the car. Children are at risk of choking because of bumpy roads or applying brakes suddenly. Offer snacks to kids before the start of the journey. If they start crying for snacks while in the car and it becomes unbearable for you, park the car at a safe location and then give them something to eat.

7. Don't Let Kids Loose In A Parking Lot

Never let kids out of your sight in a parking lot. Always hold onto them. The reason is that many drivers can't see properly while backing up and eventually hit a car or somebody. You don't want your kids to be on their own in a parking lot and get struck by a vehicle while backing up.
