Technology has changed everything around us. There was a time when smartphones, Artificial Intelligence, or Virtual Reality seemed impossible. It is amazing how things keep changing, and our lives keep getting upgraded with all the new innovations. The same goes for the tire industry.

The tire industry has now changed drastically. Previously, there were just simple tyres coming in different sizes. There was no concept of specialized tyres. Now, we have tyres according to the different seasons and surfaces. Also, new materials are used in the tires, which enhance their durability, grip, and eco-friendliness.

Bridgestone’s Connected Tyres – The Future of Tyres?

We are living in an era where technology rules the world, and a clear example of it is Bridgestone’s new concept tyre. The new concept is introduced in the face of new futuristic vehicles. These futuristic vehicles are referred to as CASE - connected, autonomous, shared, and electric vehicles.

These vehicles are causing a stir among tyre manufacturers who are in a race to produce ‘smart’ or connected tires, which will integrate with CASE vehicles. This innovative technology and new concept tyres by Bridgestone have taken the market by storm.

The good news here is that Bridgestone is taking part in the CES Technology Show this year and it is going to present its ideas there in more detail. It is claimed that these tires will be able to send real-time information to the vehicle owners. In a way, people are already using connected tires.

For example, consider the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, which informs the driver about the tire pressure. However, Bridgestone's new concept tires are way smarter and capable of doing more than just informing about the tire pressure. These tires are designed for a total of three high tech actions that include "sync, act, and sense."

These three actions are carried out with help from ADAS (advanced driver assistance system). The important thing to know here is that these tyres will be able to sense the road related conditions and communicate that information to the driver. It will help change the driving style accordingly. For example, if a tyre is worn out or slipping, it will recommend changing the driving style to accommodate it.

Presently, it is not possible. Bridgestone is adding extra sensors to the tires to make it possible. It will help make driving safer and prevent accidents. The best part here is that the ADAS system will work the same for both the winter tires and the summer tires, without making any costly changes.

As far as the price is concerned, we have to wait. Bridgestone has not confirmed the price or the exact date of when these tires will be made available for consumer use. Let us hope that the tyres are not so expensive.
