Sep 28, 2020 Car Tyres Tips & Tricks PitStopArabia

In the previous article, we talked about Bridgestone and Goodyear tires. The comparison was made in two categories – standard passenger vehicles & SUV models.

In this article, we will be following a similar idea. However, the comparison is between Bridgestone and Michelin. As most people ask me the old-time question that which is the best tires Bridgestone or Michelin?

The answer is not as straightforward as you think. Michelin and Bridgestone are the leading tire companies around the globe, both are at their peak right now and have earned numerous accreditations throughout history.

Before we jump to the tires’ comparison of both brands, we must first have a look at what they offer for what.

Michelin vs Bridgestone

When choosing car tires from Bridgestone or Michelin you must be aware that both have a reputation to stand for. All tires from them are one of the safest, durable, long-life, and high-performance tires for various conditions.

Bridgestone is the largest tire manufacturer in the world. As they are producing tires for Cars, SUVs, Sports Cars, Bikes, Off-Road, 4x4, Air crafts, Heavy machinery, and Truck Tires. In short, Bridgestone is manufacturing tires for all types of consumers. And the tires brand belongs to Japanese.

It is an American brand that also owns multiple tire brands. Including Kleber, the most popular in Europe, Tigar, Kormoran, and Uniroyal-Goodrich, a well-known tire producer BF-Goodrich tires. They also own the European budget tire called Riken.

Comparing the prices of Bridgestone and Michelin, Price comparison both brands offer tires for a high price. But they have a reason for this to produce and provide High-Quality tires. Which are long-lasting, High Performance, Good Grip, and Fuel Efficient?

Let’s first discuss the passenger vehicle tires’ and then the SUV.

BRIDGESTONE POTENZA RE050 VS. MICHELIN PILOT SPORT 4

Many people know Bridgestone RE050 as the original equipment tire for various BMW, Ferrari, and Mercedes-Benz AMG models. This speaks volumes about this tire’s features and performance levels. For those of you who are unaware of the Potenza’s legendary status, it is a summer tire designed for high-end vehicles.

The Potenza offers impressive performance in a variety of driving conditions. Whether it’s extreme summer heat or the rainy season, there’s no need to worry. The Potenza is designed to offer uniform steering response and traction in all types of road conditions. Besides this, the tire is known to be remarkably quiet.

The directional tread pattern allows for better acceleration and stability during high-speed cornering. The fabric cord body ply further improves the overall driving experience. The only complaint that we have against the Potenza is that the tread durability is poor. Tires from competitors in the same line-up are much more durable.

Michelin’s competitor to the Potenza is the Pilot Sport 4. The Pilot might not be as famous as the Potenza, but that does not mean that it is any less worthy. In fact, the Pilot is much more compatible with performance hungry cars as compared to Bridgestone’s offering. The first thing that makes this tire stand out is its efficiency.

Michelin has designed it in such a way that the rolling resistance has been remarkably reduced. This improves fuel efficiency along with the durability of the tires. Recognizing that sports vehicles are much more susceptible to curb damage, the Pilot comes with a built-in deep rim protector. Now, there is no longer a need to worry about accidental curb damage.

What’s truly unique about the Pilot is the Formula-E tread pattern. When this is combined with the latest elastomers and silica, you get next-level performance. These features are responsible for the Pilot's remarkably short braking distance and wet surface performance. Risks such as hydroplaning are non-existent when the vehicle is equipped with Michelin’s Pilot.

Winner?

Both are great tires. Picking a winner is like finding a needle in a haystack. Nevertheless, if we are asked to pick a winner, our choice is the Pilot. The reason is that it is a modern tire as compared to Potenza. The Pilot has been designed, keeping in mind what modern-day cars are offering. Nevertheless, the Potenza line-up's later models can easily give the Pilot a run for its money.

BRIDGESTON ALENZA 001 VS. MICHELIN PILOT SPORT 4 SUV

Modern SUVs are no longer just fuel-hungry machines with no regard for the environment or other people. Instead, manufacturers have moved beyond the conventional stereotypes associated with SUVs. Today, these vehicles offer elegance, luxury, and comfort without affecting the environment or consuming too much fuel.

The Bridgestone Alenza 001 provides a lot to SUVs. For instance, the Alenza offers SUV owners the ability to drive in wet and dry conditions with little difference. Due to the unique design and overall construction, the traction remains uniform in all types of road conditions. The dangers associated with wet surfaces like hydroplaning are efficiently dealt with by the Alenza.

The risk of hydroplaning is reduced due to Alenza’s tread design that allows for quick dispersion of water. Another great feature is the Nano Pro-Tech® that is responsible for the high heat resistance. This prevents premature tear and wear. Similarly, it also allows for greater fuel efficiency as less energy is required to roll the tires along the surface.

That’s not all. The Alenza has a lot more to offer to SUV owners. Imagine cornering at high speeds only to lose traction and end up in a car crash. This scenario is quite likely if you have low-quality tires installed. However, the multi-round block structure provides stability during cornering and instant steering response.

The Pilot Sport 4 SUV is another marvellous option for SUVs and crossover vehicles. If you fancy a little off-road driving experience, there's no cause for alarm. The Sport 4 SUV are well-capable of handling their own in challenging driving conditions. What makes them quite popular is their versatility across different driving conditions.

Whether it's warm, wet, or dry conditions, you will not be able to feel a difference in performance, traction, and comfortability. The functional elastomers and thin silica are responsible for improved performance, especially in wet surface conditions. The optimized notches help reduce the braking distance, a significant improvement in terms of safety.

The tire’s internal construction consists of a high-density polyester casing. This casing improves the robustness of the tire and its durability. If you are driving over hard surfaces like rocks, the robustness prevents punctures and even tire bursts. The Pilot Sport 4 SUV also comes with a deep rim protector.

Winner?

There is no clear winner here. The Alenza and the Pilot are equally great tires. If you have a choice between the two, do coins flip? That’s how difficult it is to decide a winner among the two. If budget is an issue, you can opt for the Alenza. However, it is just slightly cheaper than the Pilot Sport 4 SUV.

The only thing different is the products. Instead of elaborating on the two brands, we will get straight to the point.

After all, there is no point in telling you about the world's top two tyre brands because you already all there is to know about them.

First, we will talk about tires that you can use on sedans, coupes, and other similar vehicles.

Bridgestone Turanza T005

If you are looking for the best Michelin tire for your car, then you have found your answer in the Turanza T005. It is a summer tire with a particular focus on the dry and wet grip.

Unsurprisingly, it is the highest-rated tire for braking and turning on wet roads. Two features are responsible for this tire's excellent wet surface rating – high blocks in the shoulder area and a wide gap in the centre.

The same features combine to quickly disperse water and reduce the risk of aquaplaning. That's not all, as the T005 is given an A rating when it comes to wet grip. Depending on the size, the tire may come with Bridgestone’s run-flat technology.

Underneath the rubber, the T005 comes with stiff polyester and steel that reduce the rolling resistance. In other words, you will end up saving money on fuel costs.

Michelin Primacy 4

Imagine a tire that is the most durable in its category and the safest. Mostly, these two features are not available in one tire. Fortunately, the Michelin Primacy 4 is an exception.

The Primacy 4 comes with Michelin's EverGrip technology, enabling it to provide the same traction from its first kilometre to the last. Due to an optimised contact patch, the pressure and heat are evenly distributed across the tire, preventing premature wear and tire.

When combined with the new rubber compound, the result is a long-lasting tire. When compared with its predecessor, the Primacy 4 is 20% more fuel-efficient.

Winner?

After going through their features, customer reviews, and prices, our opinion is tilted towards the Primacy 4. Even if you opt for the T005, we can guarantee that you are not making a bad choice as both are equally outstanding tires. The Primacy 4 is just a newer tire and features some of Michelin’s most innovative technologies.

SUV Tires

Now, we will talk about SUV tires.

List of Bridgestone SUVs Tires

  • As mentioned above

Bridgestone HT 684 II

It is one of Bridgestone’s best-selling tires in the SUV category. It is an original equipment tyre for vehicles like the Cadillac Escalade and the Toyota Land Cruiser. It goes to show that the HT 684 II is truly a top-quality product.

The four circumferential grooves enable quick dispersion of water, greatly improving the tire’s traction on wet surfaces and reducing the instance of aquaplaning. Overall, the tire comes with Bridgestone's Uni-T technology, which is a combination of different technologies that ensure traction, performance, and safety.

What we don’t like about this tyre is its low tread life and the fact that it offers little to no extra when compared with tires from other brands in the same category.

Micheline Primacy SUV

If you are on the lookout for a tire that offers the best of everything, take a look at Michelin’s Primacy SUV. When compared with competitor tyres from the same category, the Primacy SUV stops 3.8 metres shorter.

When driving on roads and highways, 3.8 metres can be the difference between life and death. The grip-enhancing Flexmax 2.0 rubber compound combines with an optimised tread pattern to provide enhanced traction and handling.

Lastly, the CushionGuard and EvenPeak technologies combine to offer a comfortable driving experience. They increase the experience by absorbing the potholes and other abnormalities in the road.

Winner?

For us, the winner is HT 684 II. While if doesn’t offer many high-end features, it does not compromise on performance. Also, being an original equipment tyre for the likes of the Toyota Land Cruiser and Cadillac Escalade speaks volumes about its quality.
