Bugatti Sets a New Speed Record Using Michelin Tires

PitStopArabia brings you a short but brief article today. If you are overly enthusiastic about speed racing or fast cars, this news will surely interest you! Bugatti has set a new speed record! The car which they used in this speed test is the Chiron. However, it is not the ordinary Chiron which you can buy for $3 million or see roaming around the roads of the UAE.

This was a specially designed prototype Chiron. The most noticeable changes, when compared to the stock Chiron, are the changes to its body. Apart from body modifications, various safety alterations were also made. Overall, the modifications allowed for better aerodynamics and improved safety.

Bugatti worked in close association with Dallara, an Italian race car manufacturer, for manufacturing this prototype. What is more interesting is that the tyres used in the speed test were designed by Michelin. They were no ordinary tires. The tires were reinforced, which enabled them to handle such exceptionally high speeds.

Interestingly, Michelin is also the original equipment tire manufacturer for the stock Chiron. A stock Chiron is capable of reaching a top speed of 261 miles per hour. On the other hand, the modified Chiron reached a top speed of 305 miles per hour on Volkswagen's Ehra-Lessien test track in Germany! The driver to take part in this amazing feat is Andy Wallace.

"It's inconceivable that a car would be capable of this. But the Chiron was well prepared, and I felt very safe — even in these high-speed ranges," Wallace said in a statement. Bugatti’s president Stephan Winkelmann said "Our goal was to be the first manufacturer ever to reach the magic 300-mile-per-hour mark. We have now achieved this — making ourselves, the entire team and myself, incredibly proud".
